What Is DiamondGlow®?

More Than a Traditional Facial

DiamondGlow® is a professional skin-resurfacing treatment that combines precision diamond-tip exfoliation, vacuum-assisted extraction, and customized serum infusion in one treatment.

Unlike a traditional facial where these steps typically happen separately, DiamondGlow® uses patented 3X1™ technology to perform all three simultaneously.

As the diamond tip removes dead surface skin, vacuum technology helps clear dirt, oil, and debris while a customized SkinMedica® Pro-Infusion Serum is delivered onto the freshly exfoliated skin.

The result is skin that looks and feels cleaner, smoother, brighter, and more hydrated immediately after treatment.

How DiamondGlow® Works

  •

    Step 1 - Exfoliate

A precision diamond tip provides controlled physical exfoliation, removing dead surface skin and revealing the smoother-looking complexion underneath.

  •

    Step 2 - Extract

Vacuum-assisted technology helps remove dirt, oil, and debris from the skin's surface and pores for a deeper cleansing experience.

  •

    Step 3 - Infuse

At the same time, a customized SkinMedica® Pro-Infusion Serum is delivered directly onto freshly exfoliated skin based on your individual concerns.

  •

How Does DiamondGlow® Work?

DiamondGlow uses one wand to perform three steps at the same time:

Exfoliate

A precision diamond tip passes over the skin to remove dead surface cells and smooth rough texture. We select the strength of the diamond tip based on your skin type, sensitivity and treatment goals.

Extract

Gentle suction lifts away loosened debris and buildup as the skin is exfoliated. This provides a deeper cleanse without the manual squeezing used in many traditional facials.

Infuse

At the same time, the wand applies a customized SkinMedica® Pro-Infusion Serum. We choose your serum based on concerns such as dryness, dullness, uneven-looking tone, visible signs of aging or congestion.

Since all three steps happen together, your skin is exfoliated, cleansed and infused in a single process. Most patients leave with skin that looks smoother, brighter and more hydrated, with minimal downtime.

DiamondGlow vs. HydraFacial: What’s the Difference?

The main difference between DiamondGlow and Hydrafacial is how each treatment exfoliates the skin. DiamondGlow uses a precision diamond tip for customizable physical exfoliation, while Hydrafacial uses a disposable vortex-style tip with liquid solutions. Both treatments exfoliate, extract debris and deliver customized products, but the devices, techniques and serum systems are different.

Exfoliation

DiamondGlow uses interchangeable diamond tips with different levels of exfoliation. This allows us to adjust the treatment for your skin type, sensitivity and specific areas of the face.

Hydrafacial uses a vortex-style tip to move liquid solutions across the skin. Depending on the treatment selected, it may also incorporate glycolic and salicylic acids for chemical exfoliation.

Extraction

During a DiamondGlow treatment, controlled suction removes loosened surface debris as the diamond tip exfoliates the skin.

Hydrafacial uses vortex suction with liquid cleansing solutions to loosen and lift away buildup from the skin.

Serums and Boosters

DiamondGlow works exclusively with SkinMedica® Pro-Infusion Serums. Your serum is selected based on concerns such as dryness, dullness, uneven-looking tone, visible signs of aging or congestion.

Hydrafacial uses its own treatment solutions and offers optional boosters that can be added for different skin concerns.

Is DiamondGlow Better Than Hydrafacial?

Neither treatment is better for everyone. DiamondGlow may be a better fit if you want customizable diamond-tip exfoliation or prefer SkinMedica serums. Hydrafacial may be a better fit if you prefer liquid resurfacing, a multistep treatment and optional boosters.

At Nob Hill Aesthetics in San Francisco, we consider your skin type, sensitivity, level of congestion, current skincare routine and desired results before recommending the facial that best fits your needs.

DiamondGlow® Frequently Asked Questions

Treatment Experience

How long does a DiamondGlow treatment take?

A standard DiamondGlow facial typically takes about 45 minutes. Your total appointment time may be longer if you add treatment of the neck or chest, manual extractions or other services. Each add-on service typically requires an additional 15 minutes. We recommend allowing additional time for your consultation and personalized skin assessment.

Does a DiamondGlow facial hurt?

DiamondGlow is generally well tolerated and does not typically require numbing. Most patients describe the treatment as a light scratching or suction sensation as the diamond tip passes over the skin. The exfoliation strength and suction can be adjusted based on your comfort, sensitivity and treatment area.

Is there any downtime after DiamondGlow?

DiamondGlow is a noninvasive treatment with minimal downtime, so most patients can return to their regular activities immediately. Temporary tightness, redness or slight swelling may occur after treatment. These effects are generally mild and temporary, although individual responses can vary.

Can I wear makeup after DiamondGlow?

Makeup can generally be applied once the skin feels calm and any temporary redness has subsided. However, freshly treated skin may be more sensitive, so waiting until later in the day or the following day may be preferable. Use clean applicators and non-irritating products, and follow your provider’s instructions.

Results and Treatment Frequency

When will I see results from DiamondGlow?

Many patients notice that their skin looks smoother, brighter and more hydrated immediately after one DiamondGlow treatment. In a clinical study, 90% of patients showed improved radiance and 89% showed improved overall dryness and scaling 15 minutes after treatment. Individual results may vary.

How long do DiamondGlow results last?

The immediate glow, hydration and smoothness are temporary, and their duration varies according to your skin type, skincare routine, sun exposure and lifestyle. Consistent home care and periodic DiamondGlow treatments can help maintain the appearance of your results over time.

How often should I get a DiamondGlow facial?

DiamondGlow treatments may be performed as frequently as every two weeks, but our team recommends every 4-6 weeks. Your ideal schedule will depend on your skin concerns, sensitivity and goals. Some patients schedule a series of treatments, while others choose occasional DiamondGlow facials for maintenance or before special events.

How many DiamondGlow treatments will I need?

One treatment can provide visible exfoliation, hydration and radiance. A series may be recommended for concerns such as persistent dryness, uneven-looking tone, rough texture or congestion. After evaluating your skin, your provider will recommend a treatment plan rather than automatically prescribing the same number of sessions to everyone.

Can DiamondGlow be performed before a wedding or special event?

Yes. DiamondGlow is often selected before weddings, photographs and other events because the skin may appear smoother, brighter and more hydrated immediately afterward. If it is your first treatment or your skin is sensitive, schedule it several days before the event to allow time for any temporary redness or sensitivity to subside.

Skin Types and Customization

Is DiamondGlow suitable for sensitive skin?

DiamondGlow can be customized for many skin types, including sensitive skin. Different diamond-tip strengths and adjustable suction settings allow us to control the intensity of exfoliation. Treatment should not be performed over sunburned, chapped, irritated or broken skin, open wounds or other compromised areas.

Can DiamondGlow help oily, congested or acne-prone skin?

DiamondGlow can improve the appearance of oily and congested skin by exfoliating dead surface cells and removing loosened debris. The SkinMedica Pore Purifying Pro-Infusion Serum may be selected to clarify congested pores and improve the appearance of post-acne discoloration. DiamondGlow should not be performed over active, weeping acne.

Which DiamondGlow serum is right for my skin?

Your provider selects a SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serum based on your skin and treatment goals. Current options include TNS® Advanced+ for visible signs of aging, HA5® Hydra Collagen for rough or dry skin, Even & Correct for uneven-looking tone, Pore Purifying for congestion and Vitamin C for dullness and visible photodamage.

Can DiamondGlow treat the neck and chest?

Yes. DiamondGlow can be extended beyond the face to improve the appearance and texture of the neck and chest. At Nob Hill Aesthetics, neck treatment is available as a $75 add-on and chest treatment is available as a separate $75 add-on.

Can I add manual extractions to my DiamondGlow facial?

Yes. Manual extractions can be added for $75 when certain clogged or congested areas need more focused attention than the DiamondGlow suction provides. Your provider will examine your skin and determine whether manual extractions are appropriate before beginning treatment.

Preparation and Aftercare

How should I prepare for a DiamondGlow treatment?

Stop using retinoids and other exfoliating products at least three days before your appointment unless your provider gives you different instructions. Avoid excessive sun exposure and arrive with clean skin and no makeup when possible. Tell us about allergies, medical conditions, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any topical medications you use.

What should I avoid after DiamondGlow?

Protect your freshly treated skin from unnecessary sun exposure and apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Avoid harsh scrubs, retinoids, exfoliating acids and other potentially irritating products until your provider advises you to resume them. Keep your routine gentle, maintain hydration and avoid picking or rubbing the treated skin.
