What are Dermal Fillers?

When hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into the skin, the dermal filler attracts more water leading to appearance and property of more naturally plump skin.

While HA Dermal Fillers work by filling in areas of volume loss, plump fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance certain areas of the face, Botox freezes the underlying muscle so that fine lines and wrinkles can’t be formed, and thus there’s nothing necessary to fill.

Before the Appointment

4. Stay Hydrated - Good hydration can aid in recovery, but avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before the appointment as it can increase bruising.
5. Eat a Healthy Meal - Have a light meal before your appointment to prevent feeling lightheaded during the procedure.
6. Plan for Downtime - While most people can return to normal activities right away, plan for potential downtime if you develop bruising or swelling.
7. Inform Your Nob Hill Aesthetics Provider About Cold Sores - If you have a history of cold sores, especially around the mouth, inform your practitioner, as injections can trigger an outbreak.

During the Appointment

2. Skip Makeup - We advise against applying makeup for up to 12 hours after the treatment.

After the Appointment

2. Avoid Strenuous Activities - It's usually advised to avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.
3. Stay Upright - You might be told to avoid lying down for a few hours after the injections, especially facial fillers, to prevent the filler from shifting.
4. Avoid Heat - Stay out of direct sunlight, saunas, and avoid hot environments to reduce the risk of swelling.
5. Alcohol - It's typically recommended to avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours as it can exacerbate swelling and bruising.

Over the First Week

1. Swelling Subsides - Any swelling and bruising should start to diminish and should typically resolve within a week or two.
2. Avoid Certain Facial Treatments - You may be advised to avoid facials, massages, or other treatments that apply pressure to the face for a couple of weeks.
3. Follow-up Appointment - Sometimes a follow-up appointment is necessary to check on the progress or to add more filler if needed.
4. Gradual Improvements - The appearance of the treated area will continue to improve over the first week as swelling goes down and the filler settles into place.

While Dermal Fillers are considered a very safe and effective treatment for volume restoration, lip enhancement, contouring, and other benefits, there are some potential downsides to consider:

1. Temporary Results: While, Dermal Fillers provide immediate effects, on the other hand the effects of dermal fillers often last 6 months to a year and will depend on a number of factors like smoking, sun exposure, aging, and treatment area.
2. Side Effects: While severe complications are highly unlikely, there is still a possibility that in rare cases, vascular occlusion, delayed onset nodules, and filler migration may result.
3. Discomfort: Some people might experience a little discomfort during and after the injection, but we try to prevent as much discomfort as possible with numbing prior to the treatment!
4. Post-Treatment Downtime: After the treatment, it is recommended to avoid strenuous physical exercise for a couple of days as well as sun exposure.
5. Not Suitable for Everyone: People smoke, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history or higher risk of having an allergic reaction are not suitable candidates for Dermal Fillers
